Firefly, Whedon's new hit show, grew out of one-off episodes. Summer Glau played River Tam effortlessly. Glau was an excellent actor. Tam is required to participate in experiments sponsored by the government to help her become the most powerful assassin. Tam's ability to manage emotions is taken from her. Glau showed off her fighting capability as well as her acting talents in Firefly. The fact that she was learning to be an assassin enabled Glau to show off her athletic skills. Summer Glau has been a ballerina since she was an infant. Her broken toe marked the end of her career as an actress. Firefly was only on for one season, but it gained an avid fan base. Whedon got so passionate about Firefly that he went back after a few years. Summer Glau however continued to perform with high-quality.
